Brand Strategy

A sound brand strategy keeps a brand running like a set of gears. When every touchpoint turns in sync, customers experience one coherent business. When one gear slips, the whole machine suffers: market share falls, margins thin, customers leave, and growth stalls.

Our brand strategy audit checks seven areas, drawing on established brand research: Aaker's brand equity model, Keller's customer-based brand equity model, and the Ehrenberg-Bass Institute's research on how brands grow. It finds the gear that is slipping before you spend money on a redesign or more advertising that would not fix it.

1. Positioning(Strategic Differentiator)

Core question. Is there a clear, defensible reason to choose you?

Warning signs. If a competitor's logo replaced yours on your ads, no one would notice. What once set you apart is now what every competitor offers, and your best customers have moved on while you keep serving old expectations.

2. Perception(Mental Availability & Reality)

Core question. Does your brand come up unprompted at the exact moment of category need?

Warning signs. Your customer reviews describe something different from what your marketing promises. The reviews are right, and the gap usually points to a problem in operations, not in messaging.

3. Recognition(Distinctive Brand Assets)

Core question. Do you own unmistakable, non-copyable brand assets across all physical, digital, and AI surfaces?

Warning signs. Your logo, colours and tone of voice look different from one channel to the next, or search engines and AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini do not find or correctly describe your business. Brands rarely fail for lack of emotion. They fail because people cannot recognize them.

4. Performance(Product & Experience Delivery)

Core question. Does the real-world experience equal or exceed the promotional promise?

Warning signs. You discount to hold on to customers, buyers do not come back after purchase, or key touchpoints are frustrating. Each one erodes trust across the whole business. No amount of branding rescues a weak product.

Research anchor. Aaker's Perceived Quality & Brand Loyalty (Managing Brand Equity, 1991).

5. Alignment(Internal Brand Cohesion)

Core question. Do leadership, sales, product, and support share the exact same definition of what the brand stands for without reading brand guidelines?

Warning signs. Ask five people on your team what the brand stands for and you get five different answers. A promise made in advertising and ignored in customer service is the fastest way to lose trust.

6. Penetration(Physical & Digital Availability)

Core question. How easy is it for a prospective buyer to find, evaluate, and buy from you at the moment of intent?

Warning signs. Visitors leave your website quickly, the path to buying has too many steps, you are missing from channels where buyers look, or you depend on a narrow niche instead of reaching the wider market.

7. Adaptability(Evolution & Brand Governance)

Core question. Is your strategy evolving ahead of changing market baselines, customer needs, and technological shifts?

Warning signs. Your brand's value has stopped growing, your products or services overlap and compete with each other, or new offerings are watering down what the core brand stands for.
